Malaysia Attractions
Malaysia is a virtual haven for tourists. There are places of historic importance sporadically spread throughout the country. There are fantastic beaches with pure white sand all across the country. Malaysia is indeed a great place for tourists from all over the world. Jump in a trishaw for some authentic local transport or sample some amazing road side food from any number of hawkers that dot the country.
A tourist can start with a visit to Penang. This is a place that has a number of attractions, which Penang is famous for. History describes the state of Penang as an original part of the Sultanate of Kedah of Malaysia. The Sultan decided to present Penang to the British East India Company in exchange for military support against the Siamese and Burmese armies. These armies had been pillaging and plundering Penang much to the displeasure of the Sultan who decided to obtain foreign help. The capital of this picturesque state of Malaysia is George Town. The remnants of the old colonial George Town still exist in the buildings and houses in this city. While some of the houses are in decay, the owners of the other houses have preserved the colonial structures to give George Town the same historical look that it had before.
The Batu Ferringhi beach of the colonial George Town is one of the most popular beaches around the South East Asian countries, with a spread of some of the finest hotels and resorts. Apart from the beach, there is the Jade Emperor’s Temple, which was believed to be erected up by Taoist followers. The Jade Emperor is said to have spent thousands of years in meditation to finally overcome the rebirth and in so doing had been granted with many boons and powers that had a healing effect on the locals. The temple has been drawing crowds of locals and foreign tourists all through the year. The Jade Emperor’s Temple is famous for the unique incense and rare fragrances that greet visitors. The temple is situated just below the Penang hill. The Penang hill is also a unique place for most tourists. There is a railway service up the hill. The Penang Hill is a quiet place where nature and greenery play around in their own way. For those who want to go the way up on foot, the Penang Hill provides an excellent opportunity.
A little further is the Kek Lok Si temple that is considered as the biggest attraction of Penang. Believed to be built without the pagoda, the temple attracted hordes of visitors until the pagoda came up about 35 years later. The Kek Lok Si temple is still a major attraction in Penang and it is believed that followers of the Taoist community still practice Taoism in the precincts of the temple.
Moving on to Langkawi there is a number of tourist attractions that cannot be missed. Not only its white beaches, Langkawi also has some great spots to be seen. The Underwater World Langkawi is famous for the biggest number of species of aquatic life that it displays. The entrance to the city of Langkawi is from the Dataran Lang, or the Eagle Square, which is the house of the famous reddish brown eagle – the iconic symbol of the city of Langkawi. This eagle is shown as if ready for a long flight and is considered as a guard against all evils.
Come across to Kuala Lumpur. The capital of Malaysia truly lives up to its reputation of being a big city. Life is never at rest here and the roads are busy with disciplined traffic be it day or night. The Petronas Towers are world famous for their record height. The towers are today home to many of the big corporate names in the world.
